Our Story

Raw & Unearthed was born in 2015 as a collaborative project of two Early Childhood Teachers, Bec & Sarah, on the NSW Central Coast. Dreaming of endless adventures calling the wild and dancing in the rain, our journey began by hosting events, workshops & consulting with fellow educators to encourage them to embed more nature into their practice. We formed great friendships within the industry & mentored many educators in their practice. But, while we loved working & guiding adults in their approach to nature play, we missed the children!

So, in July 2016 we began with a very small community of local followers and a license to run weekly sessions from the beautiful Kincumba Mountain Reserve. We started small & grew organically. In 2017 Sarah ventured off to travel Australia while Bec continued to play in the mud & build our community. New locations, including Holgate & the Kariong Eco Garden were added and our community continued to grow. We welcomed new staff on board & Nature Play for the Children of the Central Coast was thriving, some even traveling from Sydney to join us. Life in nature was grand! Sadly like many small businesses, Raw&Unearthed endured a hard time during the 2020 & 2021 lockdowns as we said a sorry goodbye to staff & our multiple locations. But refusing to be defeated, like a dandelion in cement, Bec kept pushing & has built our community back up, stronger than ever!

In current times, Raw&Unearthed is curated solely by Bec, who has worked with children for close to 20years. She holds a Bachelor of Teaching, Permaculture Certificate & is a Registered Nature Based Therapist. Bec is also a Mama to 4 beautiful children & a homeschooling Mama too. If you attend our sessions you will not only meet Bec, but her wonderful tribe of helpers too. Bec has a special interest in supporting behaviour challenges, Mother’s mental health, children’s rights & is a strong advocate for play.

At Raw&Unearthed we aim to create a space for play, memories & friendships. Many of our families have been with us for multiple terms, pregnancies & children. It’s a whole family experience, a space for Mothers, Fathers, Grandparents & Caregivers. Raw&Unearthed is more than just a nature play group, it is a community of connectedness, a place to be nurtured & feel safe, a place to be a part of our Raw&Unearthed Family. Overtime, long term connections have formed, rich memories have been created & time has flowed by, unhurried.

It’s authentic. It’s real. It’s early childhood raw and unearthed, the way it should be (2015).

With the success of our weekly Raw&Unearthed PLAY sessions and the growing support of the families of the Central Coast we now run multiple sessions a week for children 6 months - 6 years. Our sessions are always fully booked and we have a substantial list of families waiting to join in the fun, we cant wait for you to join us! Along with the weekly PLAY sessions we have grown to offer sessions for school aged children, workshops for children & adults within early childhood services, PARTIES and curated an online SHOP.
