raw & unearthed is a collaborative project of two Early Childhood Teachers on endless adventures calling the wild and dancing in the rain. In this fast paced world with dreams of simpler times, we reflect on our own childhood memories where our natural desires were fulfilled and there was time to just be. Beyond the gates of an early childhood setting there lies an abundance of opportunities for children to explore, investigate and discover. Children follow their rhythms and urges as they embark on journeys filled with fun and rich learning. It’s authentic. It’s real. It’s early childhood raw and unearthed, the way it should be.
It sounds like a dream (we know) but it's our reality. Our vision is alive and children are benefiting. When was the last time you stopped, paused and or logged off and looked at the world through the eyes of a child. I wonder..... how different would your view be? Childhood is all about discovery, finding new places and the excitement of so many firsts. Stopping to smell the daisies, watching the light dance through the leaves on a tree or chasing your shadow in the afternoon sun all play a pivotal role in a child's education and it's our responsibility to channel our inner child to respond to (what may seem like) the little things.
We urge you to ask yourself, is it really necessary for a child to have a classroom or bedroom full of the latest and greatest plastic 'fantastic', single use, 'educational' toys? Commercial toys such this can really only stimulate a child's interest for so long..... (before the next craze comes in).
In an unhurried environment free from over scheduling along with our trust and support a child's natural urges and curiosities will kick in and their imagination will take the lead. Armed with nothing but a stick and an unleashed imagination a child is free to become a master of their own learning. With all their senses ignited the learning is real. It's hard to lose - imagination sticks!
raw & unearthed is a space to invite reflection and spark conversations that empower others to adventure along natures path - stopping to notice the dancing worms and dandelions.
